I was lucky enough to participate in the Sakura Hunani (Cherry Blossom Watching) as I came to the tail end of the season. Cherry blossoms only bloom for a week, making this season all the more fleeting and coveted.

On April 1, 1959, Toronto was gifted Sakura
Trees by Japan. Toru-Hagiwara the
Japanese ambassador, presented 2000 Japanese on behalf of the citizens of
Tokyo. It was for the support of Japanese-Canadian refugees after the Second
World War. The city of Toronto in conjunction with the Consulate General of
Japan, created the, “Sakura Project” and continue to plant sakura trees every
year.
The park is located 15 minute walk from High ParkStation. Be ready to walk and wear comfortable shoes! I was lucky to wear flats! There are a lot of down slopping trails.
The City of Toronto Parks and Recreation also offers a train ride that costs $4.50 if you wish.
